FAQs

  • HCS opened in the fall of 1994 with one small classroom for children ages three to five. Over the years, we have expanded to offer four primary classrooms, two pre-primary classrooms and an extended day enrichment classroom that is open from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

  • With a location that is easily accessible from Interstates 70 and 81, our families come from Hagerstown and the surrounding tri-state area.

  • HCS is licensed as a non-public school with the Maryland State Board of Education and holds a non-profit 501(c)3 tax status. This tax status makes all donations made to HCS tax deductible.

  • HCS is a member of Montessori Schools of Maryland, Maryland State Child Care Association, Washington County Child Care Association, and an affiliate member of the International Montessori Society (IMS# 2024).

  • The majority of our students transfer to the public school in their home district after attending HCS. Others go on to attend religiously affiliated or private schools.

  • Because our students have been encouraged to develop good work habits and independence along with academic skills in all areas of the curriculum, they tend to do very well in other educational settings. Many of our students go on to attend various magnet programs within the Washington County Public School system.
